Is Howard Schultz Gearing Up for a Run?

Dear Starbucks Friend and Fellow Citizen:

I love our country. And I am a beneficiary of the promise of America. But today, I am very concerned that at times I do not recognize the America that I love.

Like so many of you, I am deeply disappointed by the pervasive failure of leadership in Washington. And also like you, I am frustrated by our political leaders' steadfast refusal to recognize that, for every day they perpetuate partisan conflict and put ideology over country, America and Americans suffer from the combined effects of paralysis and uncertainty. Americans can't find jobs. Small businesses can't get credit. And the fracturing of consumer confidence continues.

We are better than this.

Boycott BP

I don't have a car so I don't think about this stuff as much, but I really hope those of you who do are boycotting BP and all the BP brands.

BP brands to boycott include Castrol, Arco, Aral, am/pm, Amoco, Wild Bean Cafe, and Safeway gas.

I'm proud to say that I drove around on an empty tank two weeks ago to avoid the Arco station.

Bad Business Bureau

Email from The Mayoress to Things Remembered:

I noticed that on the flask page the categories you can filter by for recipient are all male (except "boss," although in this context it would seem you intend "boss" to be "male"). That's both sexist and bad business. I'll now proceed to slam you on Facebook, Twitter, and my blog, not that you know what these things are, because apparently this company thinks it's still the 19th century.

Sincerely,
CP

Slate Exposes Etsy. Thank God.

You know what I hate?

When someone thinks they're being creative and original and says to me, "I'm starting my own jewelry line!"

People. The world does not need more jewelry lines. There are plenty. Trust me.

But don't take my word for it.
